The Epic Fall Road Trip 2025-Part 2: Yarmouth, Nova Scotia

Our journey continued when we took the ferry from Maine to Nova Scotia.  The CAT is the only and fastest way to travel between Bar Harbor and Yarmouth, Novia Scotia. It was a four hour trip. We drove onto the ferry, departed from our car and went upstairs to the lounge. They have two ferries departing from different locations but one was closed for the session. Flying is the only other mode of transportation to the province. We exited the ferry late in the afternoon. I saw my fishing boats and a beautiful sunset!  I was in my glory!  We spent a lot of time shooting and then we headed into town to have dinner and find a hotel for the night. I will always remember this seaside town as it is where I first stepped onto Canadian soil.  I want to return and do some serious exploring here as Yarmouth has a lot to offer. We didn’t checkout the bigger marinas where the trawlers depart from.

Yarmouth was settled n 1761 and is located on the southwestern end of Nova Scotia. It is the province’s largest seaport west of Halifax with only a population of around 7800 residents. Yarmouth is steeped in maritime history. Yarmouth was a major shipping center in the 19th century. One time it had more registered tonnage per capita than any other port in the world. Yarmouth was the second largest port registry in Canada from 1874 to 1885.

l love what I can find on these trawlers!

She was huge! I bet she has an interesting history.

Many of the commercial fishing boats were drydocked.

Beautiful sunset sky!

The town had lots of colorful buildings.

  Sunset in Yarmouth.

The life of a fishing trawler. Isn’t she beautiful?

Next stop Digby, Nova Scotia!
