Life Lessons from Nature: Snakes, Mosquitos, and Faith

I lived in Jacksonville, NC. If you are not familiar with the area, Jacksonville is the home of Marine Corp Base Camp Lejeune. Eastern North Carolina has really interesting landscapes. The area is full of lobblolly pines, water and swamp land. A perfect environment for alligators and snakes.

I lived in this wonderful town at two different times in my life. I liked it so much I moved back! I spent many hours in Northeast Creek Park exploring and taking pictures.

Black and white image of a sign at the entrance of a broken down wooden walkway. The dign states Beware of venomous snakes an reptiles.
This is the wooden walkway along Northeast Creek. The walkway meandered over shallow, stagnant water full of reeds and scrub trees. I loved taking walks to see what I could find.  The last time I visited it was closed to the public due to severe damage from a recent hurricane. At the entrance was this sign warning all who entered what they might encounter, “CAUTION Beware of Venomous Snakes and Reptiles”.

This image reminds me of the times we are living in now.  Full of snakes and venomous creatures! Our walks in life these days can take us down dangerous paths. We don’t know what we will encounter. This reminds me that Satan roams the earth causing  havoc. Job 1:7 illustrates a conversation the Lord had with Satan: ….And the LORD said to Satan, “From where do you come?” So Satan answered the LORD and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”

I also sxplored the various paths in the woods. I had to exit the walkway to be able to stroll through the woods. The area is quiet and peaceful with numerous bogs. But beware of the mosquitos! To me the mosquitos represent our daily annoyances. One has to be armed with bug spray for protection. This protection is our Bible. At the end of my exploring, I found this beautiful scene.

I think this is what heaven will lool like, very ethereal. Our world has lots of beauty but is full of sin. I am looking forward to spending eternity in heaven where everything is beautiful and magnificent!
