All Nature Sings

It is good to praise the LORD and make music to your name, O Most High…For you make me glad by your deeds, LORD; I sing for joy at what your hands have done. Ps. 92:1-4, NIV

I found this Daily devotional that I loved written by David A. Steen. Reference is at the end of the blog! The images are mine.

Majestic fallen tree…

Do you realize what a privilege it is to praise the Lord? Many don’t even know that he exists. Some have never heard him while others have, but chose not to believe. So if you have heard, and have chosen to believe, what a privilege and honor it is to lift one’s heart and voice in praise and heartfelt worship to the Creator.

Thundering sounds of horses’ hooves running… whinnying and snorting and the wonderful smell of musky horses….

It seems to me that nature is never quiet about praising God. For example, animate and inanimate like glorify him by fulfilling the purpose for which He created them. So when the thunder crashes or the ocean roars, when raindrops splat or gentle breezes rustle the leaves; when birds call or chipmunks chip; when frogs croak, or seals bark, I like to think of this, as praise to God, and my heart wants to join in. For that matter, how often have you ever heard complete silence when you were out in nature? Many times I have been in what I believed as total wilderness and have listened to all nature singing. Animate, and inanimate alike generates sounds that can be interpreted as praise. Even deep in a cave where you would assume silence would prevail, I have heard, water dripping or flowing and the gentle sound of air, waving through the many channels and caverns. Yes, even the intricate sound of hands clapping is universally interpreted as praise and honor.

Sounds of seals barking, waves crashing on the rocks…

So how much more meaningful and precious to God, then, is the use of His gift of mind and voice and tongue to express our gratitude for life and our heartfelt praise to Him. Just consider, of all creation we are the only species that even has the neural pathways to contemplate and think about our Maker. But more than that, we have the ability employ meaningful words and thoughtful prayer phrases that express our joyful hearts. Taking our cues and inspiration from David, we can “proclaim our love in the morning, and our faithfulness at night” (Psalms 92:2, NIV). We can even use all types of musical instruments to show our praise. “For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord; I sing for joy at what your hands have done. How great are your works, Lord, how profound your thoughts!” (versus 4, 5, NIV). Come to think of it, God uses all the songs of nature to get our attention “so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the Lord is God, and that there is no other“ (1 Kings 8:60 NIV).

Sounds of waterfalls…feeling gentle waves of cool wind and water mist on your face…

Put your song in my heart today, Lord, so that I can proclaim your faithfulness to me.
