This morning I went out to enjoy the first snow of the year. We had about six inches of soft, powdery snow. My walk this morning was a wonderful reprieve from the ugliness in today’s world. The fresh snow fell quietly as I walked down my street.

I love snow! I want two feet of snow every year! I will say, though, that I am retired so I don’t have drive in it. There is something about snow that touches my inner being. Snow is calming, serene and peaceful to me. Snow is beautiful. Snow is quiet and at the same time it is vibrant. Colors stand out against the contrast of snow because◦snow changes the light as well as the shadows.

Did you know that◦ snow absorbs up to 60% of sound? So that feeling of serenity and calm that comes from a snowy environment has a scientific basis. Isn’t our God great! (my addition) But just as they tamp down background noises, snowy days can also amplify nature sounds like the crack of a tree in the nearby woods or birdsong. This too is relaxing. According to a study by University of Sussex, when people hear sounds of nature they experience more activity in the parts of their brain responsible for rest and relaxation. And these are most pronounced for people who are most stressed out. Snow is a wonder from God! He is showing us that He creates beauty all around us! We are His creation thus we are beautiful and worthy! We were created in his image!

God works silently like the falling snow. He works in our lives to change snd mold us to his image.
Snow is used throughout the Bible. White represents purity and also is a symbol of righteousness and spiritual cleanness.

Snow is used in the bible to describe Christ. Revelation 1:14 says, “His head and His hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire.”- Matthew 28:3 says, “His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:” Describing the risen Christ while in the tomb.

In Job 9:30 Snow water is symbolic of thorough cleansing. “If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;”

It’s interesting that in Proverbs 25:13 the “cold of snow” refers to a snow-cooled drink, a welcome refreshment during the heat of harvest days. The use of snow or ice to cool was used by the wealthy even in biblical times. “As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, So is a faithful messenger to them that send him: For he refresheth the soul of his masters.”
Several verses in the Bible describe leprous skin as “white as snow”.
In Isaiah 1:18-19 the Lord says “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool. If you will only obey me, you will have plenty to eat.
Psalm 51:7 says “Purge me with ahyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.”
