When I was a child, maybe in the seventh or eighth grade, I would look up in the sky to see if Jesus was coming. Somewhere, I had learned that Christ would come again in the clouds. I am always looking up at the clouds and asking, “When will Christ come”? Actually, I hope he comes soon!
Clouds are important in landscapes. They literally set the mood of the overall scene and they can affect one’s mood as well. They add drama and texture to any landscape photo.
As a photographer, I love clouds. Clouds are especially important in infrared photography. One of three elements, the other two being water and trees make for a great infrared photo. Infrared photography lets you “see” into the cloud which gives depth to the image.
The Bible uses clouds to represent the presence of God.
Today, clouds shield us from the hot sun and will also keep the earth warm at night by not allowing the heat to escape.
Clouds appear throughout scripture. There are 162 references in 149 verses. We first see clouds in Genesis, where the Lord placed his bow in the clouds-as a sacramental reminder of the covenant mercy that he was promising in preparation for the coming Redeemer. I think of white, puffy clouds on a clear day as pure and unadulterated, just like how God wants us to be….
Clouds bring the earth rain and nourishment to the parched dry earth just as Christ provides us with his living water to nourish our parched souls. EGW
The Lord came and dwelt in a cloud in the tabernacle and lived among his people. “It came to pass, when Moses entered the tabernacle, that the pillar of cloud descended and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the Lord talked with Moses.
