This image was taken on Portsmouth Island which is a remote island in North Carolina along the Outer Banks. The island is popular with fishermen. I went with my cousin George and his daughter, cousin Amy. Access to the island requires a four-wheel drive and is only accessible by ferry. Very few people and not much evidence of man exist except a ranger station, showers and a bathroom. It’s just you and the Lord! The vastness and the quietness speaks of how vast and all-encompassing our Lord is in our lives. He quietly speaks to us every day helping us, by giving us knowledge, wisdom and discernment in order to live our lives as Jesus would want us too. The rhythmic, gentle breaking of the waves on shore; the smell of salt in the air; the cool sea breeze gently blowing across your shoulders; the warm sun hitting your face, the beautiful, deep blue sky; the warm sand squishing under your feet and between your toes as you walk; pelicans flying in formation skimming the surface of the ocean. Everything works in harmony demonstrating God’s love and glory.
Nature speaks to our senses without ceasing. The open heart will be impressed with the love and glory of God as revealed through the works of His hands. The listening ear can hear and understand the communications of God through the things in nature. The green fields, the lofty trees, the buds and flowers, the passing cloud, the falling rain, the babbling brook, the glories if the heavens, speak to our hearts, and invite us to become acquainted with Him who made them all. Our Savior bound up His previous lessons with the things of nature. “Keys to Happiness”, EGW, pg. 41
